For multi-shift workshops that require continuous operation, the battery life and charging efficiency of handling equipment directly affect the production rhythm. As a commonly used medium-tonnage handling tool, 3.5-ton lithium-ion forklifts need to focus on these two dimensions when selecting the configuration.
Generally speaking, the single-day operation time of a multi-shift workshop may reach 12 to 24 hours. According to different working conditions such as cargo weight, handling distance, and driving slope, the basic cruising range or operating time of a 3.5-ton lithium forklift will fluctuate. The basic battery configuration can usually meet the needs of an 8-hour shift in a flat workshop where the cargo is concentrated in 2.5 to 3 tons, the average single handling distance is 50 to 100 meters, and the driving slope is within 3%. If the handling distance exceeds 150 meters, there are many turns or gradients, or the cargo close to the rated load needs to be handled, the base battery life may be shortened to 6 to 7 hours.
When configuring the battery, the multi-shift workshop can choose the appropriate solution according to its own single-day gap shift. If the single-day gap is 4 to 6 hours, you can give priority to replacing the spare battery of the same specification. The replacement process of the spare battery is usually relatively simple, and the general operator can complete it within 5 to 10 minutes after simple training, without relying on professional technicians; if the single-day gap is short, or the workshop space is limited and multiple sets of spare batteries cannot be stored, you can choose to expand the battery pack, but after the expansion, you need to confirm whether the load balance performance of the forklift meets the requirements to avoid affecting the operation safety due to changes in battery weight.
The choice of charging configuration should also be combined with the battery scheme. A workshop that chooses a backup battery scheme can configure 1 to 2 slow charging devices, and use non-working rest time to fully charge the backup battery. The charging current of the slow charging device is small, which can prolong the service life of the battery to a certain extent; a workshop that chooses an expanded battery or does not replace the battery can be equipped with a fast charging device. The fast charging device can replenish the power in a short time, such as about 30 minutes to replenish 30% to 50% of the power. It can be used during fragmented times such as employee shifts and meals, but it should be noted that frequent use of fast charging may have a certain impact on the cycle life of the battery.
In addition, regardless of which battery life and charging configuration is selected, a suitable charging area needs to be reserved in the workshop, and the charging area should be kept ventilated and dry, away from flammable items, and equipped with necessary fire protection facilities.
