Keep forks low while traveling, only raising them to the needed height for stacking. Tilting the mast slightly backward helps maintain balance, particularly on uneven surfaces.
Pedestrian safety must be a top priority. Warehouses mix forklifts and foot traffic, so operators must stay vigilant. Use horns or alarms to alert pedestrians when turning corners or entering blind spots, and always yield the right of way when necessary. Respect designated pedestrian walkways and avoid driving through foot-traffic-only areas.
Finally, be prepared for emergencies. Operators should be trained in responding to tip-overs, battery leaks, or fires. In a tip-over, stay inside the cabin, hold the steering wheel, and avoid jumping out—this reduces injury risk. Know the location of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency stop buttons throughout the warehouse.
