Proper watering maintenance is a core routine to extend the service life of lead-acid forklift units, and improper operation may cause irreversible damage to internal battery structures, reduce performance stability and raise extra operation cost for your fleets.
First, you need to confirm the battery has finished full charging cycle and cooled down for at least 30 minutes before starting watering work. Do not add water before the charging process, otherwise the electrolyte will expand and overflow during the charging reaction, which may cause unnecessary corrosion to surrounding parts.
Then you can check the electrolyte level first, make sure the liquid level is 10 to 15 mm above the internal plate, do not overfill the tank, excess electrolyte will lead to acid leakage and potential safety risks. It is recommended to use qualified deionized water for watering, never add tap water or other untested liquid which contains impurity elements, that will trigger extra internal reaction and shorten battery cycle life.
