When operating electric forklifts in scenarios that require longer reach for material handling, many teams choose to install heavy-duty forklift extensions to fit special working conditions. However, blindly applying the original rated load value of the forklift without targeted load capacity calculation will bring hidden risks to operation safety. The following practical tips can help operators standardize the calculation process effectively.
First, make clear the self-weight offset of the extension itself. The heavy-duty forklift extension has extra self-weight that will change the original load center distance of the standard forklift. Operators should not directly use the factory-calibrated rated load of the original equipment. It is necessary to incorporate the total self-weight of the extension into the overall load calculation, subtract the weight difference after replacing the standard fork, and adjust the reference value of the load center to a new benchmark.
Second, complete the load attenuation correction for different lifting heights. The original rated load of electric forklifts is calibrated based on standard lifting height parameters. After the heavy-duty extension is installed, the higher the lifting height, the larger the forward offset of the load center. Operators need to check the official load curve of the electric forklift, correct the allowable load value for each lifting section, to avoid stability loss at high lifting status.
Third, conduct field test and calibration after the theoretical calculation. After finishing the paper calculation, use the counterweight of 80% of the calculated rated value to carry out no-load and half-load trial operation respectively, test the stability under three working conditions of low-position walking, middle-position lifting and high-position stacking, and confirm there is no obvious tilting risk before putting the equipment into formal operation.
Standard load capacity calculation is the core prerequisite to ensure safe and efficient operation. We are Jianshu New Energy, specializing in BYD electric forklifts. For relevant professional technical consultation, you can send an email to 17399989919@163.com for targeted guidance.
