When operating electric forklifts in different scenarios from low-temperature cold storage to high-temperature outdoor logistics yards, many operators pay close attention to the performance stability of the core power supply, the lithium forklift batteries. Understanding the accurate working temperature range of such batteries is the core premise to extend service life, reduce operation failure risk and improve operation efficiency.
First of all, the conventional recommended working temperature range for most standard lithium forklift batteries during normal discharging process is from -20℃ to 55℃, while the suitable temperature range for charging process is relatively narrower, usually between 0℃ and 45℃. This parameter is set based on the intrinsic chemical characteristics of lithium battery cells and the built-in battery management system, to avoid irreversible damage to the internal electrode material caused by improper temperature environment.
When the ambient temperature is lower than the minimum limit of the recommended discharging range, the activity of the internal electrolyte will decrease obviously, leading to temporary drop of battery discharge capacity and reduction of output power. Long time continuous operation under such ultra-low temperature environment will increase the risk of lithium precipitation on the electrode surface, which will permanently reduce the total capacity of the battery pack. For operation scenarios that stay in low temperature environment for long time, it is suggested to choose lithium batteries with special low temperature preheating function, and complete the full preheating procedure before starting the heavy load handling work.
When the ambient temperature exceeds the upper limit of the recommended working range, the heat generation efficiency of the battery pack will rise significantly. The built-in BMS system will start the over temperature protection mechanism automatically to limit the output power, to prevent abnormal damage caused by continuous high temperature operation. Operators should avoid placing the forklift under direct strong sunlight for long time in hot summer, and arrange proper rest period for the battery pack after long time heavy load operation to release accumulated heat in time.
