Ramp operation is one of the high-frequency scenarios for daily forklift material handling work in warehouses, logistics parks and factory workshops. Non-standard operation on incline surfaces may easily lead to hidden safety hazards such as vehicle skidding, cargo falling off or accidental rollover, which will threaten the safety of operators, surrounding staff and transported goods.
Before driving the forklift onto any ramp, operators shall carry out pre-inspection work first: check the ramp surface for cracks, slippery attachments, scattered sundries or obvious damage, confirm the ramp load capacity can bear the total weight of the forklift plus full load of cargo, and verify the gradient of the ramp is within the allowable range of the corresponding forklift model.
When transporting goods on the ramp, operators shall keep the load facing the uphill direction all the time, never turn the vehicle on the incline, and avoid traveling across the ramp slope horizontally. Keep the driving speed at a low and stable level, and do not apply sudden brake or sharp acceleration during the whole driving process.
When the forklift needs short time parking on the ramp, operators shall reliably engage the parking brake, place limit chocks at the wheel side to prevent unexpected slipping. It is recommended to finish all the cargo picking and placing work on the flat ground area at both ends of the ramp rather than operating right on the incline, to effectively reduce the operation risk.
