forklift forks are the core load-bearing component of all industrial handling forklifts, directly supporting the weight of goods during daily operation. Under standard operation specifications, regular maintenance and non-overload working conditions, the average service life of forklift forks can reach 5 to 8 years. The actual service span is not fixed, it will be affected by multiple factors including daily average load, ground flatness of the working area, and operators’ usage habits. Frequent overloading, hard dragging of goods on rough ground, and violent collision with surrounding goods or frames will accelerate the wear of forks, and reduce the normal service life obviously.
To ensure operation safety, enterprise managers need to master clear wear indicators to judge whether the forklift forks need to be replaced in time. The first intuitive indicator is the thickness of the fork hook and fork body: if the local wear thickness exceeds 10% of the original nominal thickness, the forks should stop being used immediately. The second indicator is the bending deformation of the fork horizontal section: when the sag angle exceeds 5 degrees, the load-bearing performance will drop sharply, which does not meet the safety operation requirements. The third indicator is surface cracks: even tiny visible cracks on any part of the fork will bring hidden risks of sudden fracture. It is recommended to arrange regular monthly inspection for forklift forks to eliminate hidden dangers in advance.
